Ardnahoe Whisky

History

Hunter Laing & Company, founded by Frederick Laing in 1949 and continued by his sons Stewart and Andrew, announced the Ardnahoe project in 2016. The distillery was constructed on a site with access to the Ardnahoe Loch, the source of its process water, and designed to use traditional worm tub condensers - a slower, older method of condensation that produces a heavier, more complex new-make spirit. The first spirit ran off the stills in 2019, making Ardnahoe the eighth operational distillery on Islay.

What Makes This Brand Unique

Ardnahoe uses traditional worm tub condensers, which create more copper contact during distillation and result in a spirit with a distinctly meaty, rich, and complex profile. The distillery also uses a very long fermentation period, which adds to the fruitiness and depth of the spirit. Unlike some younger Islay distilleries that rush releases to market, Ardnahoe has been careful about what it bottles - and the awards are beginning to reflect that patience.
