Glengoyne is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery located just north of Glasgow, near the village of Dumgoyne - technically sitting astride the Highland Line, with its stills in the Highlands and its warehouses in the Lowlands.
Owned by Ian Macleod Distillers since 2003, Glengoyne is one of the few Scottish distilleries that does not use any peated barley in its production, making it a rare example of an entirely unpeated Highland malt. This choice places the entire focus of flavor on the spirit itself and the casks in which it matures - particularly sherry casks, which are central to Glengoyne's identity.

History
Founded in 1833 as Burnfoot Distillery, Glengoyne has been producing whisky for nearly two centuries. It passed through several ownership changes before Ian Macleod Distillers purchased it from the Edrington Group.
The distillery is known for its slow distillation - it uses the slowest distillation speed in Scotland according to its own claims - which the team believes contributes to a richer, fruitier spirit. Glengoyne is also notable for its commitment to sherry cask maturation, sourcing high-quality oloroso and PX sherry casks from Jerez in Spain.

What Makes This Brand Unique
Glengoyne's commitment to no-peat production and premium sherry cask maturation is rare in Scotland. The result is a range of whiskies that taste unmistakably of the cask - rich dried fruits, chocolate, Christmas cake notes - without any smokiness to distract. The distillery also offers excellent visitor experiences and is accessible from Glasgow, making it one of the most visited distilleries in Scotland.
Flavor Philosophy
Glengoyne's whiskies are built on sweetness and dried fruit character. Sherry cask influence brings raisins, dark cherries, toasted oak, and a warming spice, while the unpeated spirit provides a clean, slightly grassy base. It is one of the more approachable Highland malts for those who love sherry-forward whisky.

Who This Brand Appeals To
Glengoyne is a natural choice for anyone who loves sherried, fruit-forward whisky. It appeals to fans of Macallan, GlenDronach, and Aberlour - but sits in a slightly different register, a touch lighter and more Highland in its underlying character. The First Fill Edition is a strong recommendation for anyone stepping up from standard age-statement bottles.
